PREVIOUSLY ON HALO — created by Haruspis
Alex (‘Haruspis’) is a Writer, Community & Social Media Manager, former-BizDev, QA, and Teacher.
In the two decades that I have been a Halo fan, I have vociferously devoured every piece of media this franchise has had to offer, permanently wiring my brain to this universe.
“Might as well do something useful with that information, right?” I thought, not realising that — after the tremendous reception my work on PREVIOUSLY ON DESTINY got — that I would be setting out to write 100,000 words in 4 months, summarising over 180 individual stories.
PREVIOUSLY ON HALO has been a labour of love to a series that has been with me for as long as I can remember. It’s strange to think that I was 7 when Halo: Combat Evolved released, meaning that Halo has been in my life far longer than it hasn’t. In recent years, it’s provided me a platform, a community, countless friends, and kickstarted my own entry into the gaming industry.
That all comes from these stories.
As we head in Halo Infinite, representing the next ten years of this journey, I wanted to look back to illuminate the stories, characters, and worlds that I’ve loved for the last two decades. A way to share the bigger picture of the Halo universe — especially beyond the games — in a way that I hope is helpfully easy to digest.
Many fantastic resources exist to provide the full spread of in-depth detail about these things, but what of the newcomer who is understandably intimidated by the scale of Halo’s narrative offering and unsure where to start? What of the long-time fan who has perhaps been out of the loop for some years and wants to quickly get a sense of what’s been happening in the story and where things are at?
Where I have become known over the years for extensive narrative analyses, I thought it would be a fitting challenge to attempt to summarise these stories — capturing their essence, their themes — which might help guide Halo fans new and old to the kinds of tales they gravitate towards.
So, thank you for your support over the years — for your readership, your comments, your friendship, and more.
It’s been a long road to get here, but I think this is just the start of our Great Journey.
